Understanding the root causes of students’ learning challenges is essential for effective instruction and equitable support. In this interactive session, we will delve into the nuanced intersection of language acquisition and disability, helping educators distinguish between language learning needs and learning disabilities. Participants will explore common misconceptions that lead to misidentification or missed opportunities for multilingual learners with learning difficulties. Through real-world scenarios, collaborative discussions, and practical tools, educators will learn how to collect and interpret meaningful evidence that can be used to provide targeted support in the classroom and if needed, to inform a more equitable and accurate MTSS process.
