How can classroom environments better serve the diverse needs of all learners, especially students in special education? This session explores a collaborative, values-driven approach to transforming learning spaces into inclusive, supportive, and accessible environments. Participants will learn how to align their physical classrooms with their teaching mission, student needs, and support patterns. Through guided reflection and practical design strategies, educators will walk away with concrete tools to assess, adapt, and enhance their spaces—ensuring every student feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.
This session explores how the intentional design of school environments—both physical and relational—can foster deep connections, a strong sense of belonging, and a culture of care. Drawing on research and practices rooted in educational design and community-building, we will examine how relationship-driven strategies, an ethic of care, and thoughtful spatial choices intersect to create inclusive, supportive learning communities. Participants will leave with actionable ideas to reimagine classrooms, common areas, and school-wide practices that prioritize human connection and student well-being.
