Lasso Your Reinforcement Game: Fueling Growth with Positive Reinforcement
Monday August 4, 2025 1:15pm - 2:15pm MDT
Ready to take your reinforcement game from offside to outstanding? In this high-energy, interactive session (cue whistle blow), we’ll channel our inner Ted Lasso and explore the science and strategy behind reinforcement, all through the lens of Safe & Civil Schools. Just like Ted knows every player needs something a little different to shine, we’ll learn how to identify meaningful reinforcers, update them like a mid-season playbook, and spot when we’re accidentally reinforcing the wrong “goals.”

We’ll tackle how to use reinforcement schedules with intention, and why the “I” in STOIC—Increasing Positive Interactions—is the secret sauce (well, that and biscuits). Whether you’re running class-wide systems or designing individualized behavior plans, this session will give you the tools to make every student feel like an MVP.

We’ll dive into:
  • Teaching and reinforcing replacement behaviors (a.k.a. training for the behavior you do want)
  • Understanding the full team roster of supports, from universal to intensive
  • Assessing skill level and social validity to make sure your interventions hit home, developmentally and emotionally

So lace up your cleats, bring your curiosity, and remember: it's not just about managing behavior—it’s about believing in people.
